CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charleston is inaugurating a new mayor for the first time in 40 years.
John Tecklenburg takes the oath of office as mayor of South Carolina's second-largest city at noon Monday during a ceremony on the steps of city hall in Charleston's historic district.
Tecklenburg won a six-way nonpartisan election in November to succeed Joe Riley, who served as mayor for 10 terms.
Riley was the longest-serving mayor in Charleston's 345-year history.
