MATTHEWS, N.C. — Police have identified the two people found dead Thursday afternoon inside a Matthews home, where police said they also found evidence of a fire.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene on Phillips Woods Lane later Thursday evening, after sunset, and could still see police vehicles up and down the road.

Police said that around 1:15 p.m. they responded to the home for a welfare check. Officers looked through a window and saw someone in distress, they said.

When they entered the house, authorities found 50-year-olds Michael Allen Klingsporn and Melanie Joan Klingsporn. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Police also noticed that there had recently been some type of fire inside the house.
No other details have been released and police, along with the fire marshal’s office, continue to investigate.
