SILER CITY, N.C. (AP) — Two people have been hurt after a small plane crashed while trying to land at the Siler City Municipal Airport in Chatham County.
Airport Manager Karen McCraw said the plane came down in some woods near the runway around 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Assistant manager Ben Marion said the plane was coming from Southern Pines for maintenance. He said the pilot was making a second approach for the landing when the plane went down.
One person was flown to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. The other person was taken there by ambulance. There was no word on their conditions.
McCraw said the 5,000-foot runway has been closed. There were no injuries on the ground.
McCraw said the plane was an A-36 Beechcraft Bonanza.
