2 killed, 1 hurt in west Charlotte crash, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C — Two people were killed and another was hurt in a crash in west Charlotte Friday night, police said.

Officers responded to the wreck at around 8:51 p.m. on Wilkinson Boulevard.

After investigating, officers said an SUV was traveling west on Wilkinson Boulevard and the driver went through the intersection of Old Steele Creek Road at a high rate of speed. The SUV then struck a car turning left into Donald Ross Road. The car then went off the road and hit a utility pole.

The driver of the car, 32-year-old Rodney Grier, and his passenger, 37-year-old Emanuel Jackson, died at the scene, MEDIC confirmed. The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation.
