2 women charged after toddler found in vehicle at unlicensed daycare dies

RICHMOND COUNTY, N.C. — Two women have been charged after a 22-month-old toddler found in a vehicle died in Richmond County, authorities said.

Investigators said they received a call Thursday about an unresponsive child on Larry Parson Road in Ellerbe.

According to officials, they determined the child was at an unlicensed daycare facility and was left inside a parked vehicle in the yard.

Dorothy Moore, 53, and Paige Black, 24, have been charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony child abuse-serious bodily injury. They are being held at the Richmond County Jail with a bail set at $30,000.

The toddler was taken to a care facility where he was pronounced dead. The official cause of death has not been released.

This is an ongoing investigation.
