CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a 23-year-old man was killed in a crash in northeast Charlotte Monday night.
Officers said Matthew Nemeth was a passenger in a Hyundai Genesis driven by 20-year-old Luke Warren when the vehicle accelerated down West WT Harris Blvd. around 9 p.m. and began to fish tail.
Investigators said Warren tried to control the car but over-corrected, slid off the right side of the road and hit a guardrail.
Nemeth was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center but was pronounced dead just after 10 p.m.
Warren was taken to CMC-University with minor injuries. He has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Both men were wearing seatbelts, according to CMPD, and it was raining heavily at the time of the crash.
Officers said alcohol was not a factor but that the crash was likely caused by traveling too fast for conditions.
