Woman killed, another seriously injured after SUVs collide in Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — A 21-year-old woman is dead after two vehicles collided in Kannapolis Thursday morning, police said.

Officers responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m. on Lane Street near Earley Street.

No other details have been released at this point.

Authorities said 18-year-old Cinquana L. Moody was driving an SUV heading west on Lane Street when she crossed the center line and hit another SUV. Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and firefighters had to get them out.

Police said Moody was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The other driver, Brianna Simpson, died on the way to the hospital.
