Woman charged with DUI month after deadly head-on crash in Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A woman has been charged more than a month after a crash left a 21-year-old woman dead in Rock Hill, police said.

The victim was in the passenger seat of a Chevy Cobalt when it collided with a Honda Pilot on Springdale Road between Millhouse Drive and Spring Drive on Sept. 1.

The driver of the Cobalt was taken to Piedmont Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Honda, Sourattiya Chitpanya, along with her 3-year-old passenger, were taken to the hospital but were OK.

On Friday, police said Chitpanya had been charged with felony DUI resulting in death, as well as child endangerment with DUI.

Investigators said she was under the influence while driving and crossed into the opposing lane, hitting the Cobalt head-on.

Chitpanya is set to appear in court on Friday.
