RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina Chili’s is back open after margaritas left three customers with chemical burns.
It happened Monday in Rutherford County.
Health officials there say a worker put a degreasing chemical in an unlabeled container outside, which was then brought into the restaurant and left in the bar area.
They say another employee saw it and thought it was salt or sugar.
The news shocked one customer, who said it was like something out of a horror movie and is nervous about going back.
“It’s like a Wes Craven story that’s coming to life. I mean, you don’t get margaritas that can burn your skin,” customer Levonne Baker told WLOS. “It’s like what’s in there next? I mean, am I going to be the next person?”
The restaurant reopened Thursday after cleaning and meeting all safety requirements.
