CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The former Eastland Mall site is being sought by three investors. The city of Charlotte's Economic Development Committee will reveal three proposals from potential developers at Thursday's meeting.
The city is not saying much about the proposals or who the investors are until Thursday.
"This is the closest we have been," Councilwoman Dimple Ajmera said.
She said the three investors are "seriously interested" in bringing development to the property and all three of the potential projects have already been vetted by the city.
Ajmera said Eastland has new momentum. Since being appointed to the council, she has made the former mall grounds her top priority.
She calls the three proposals game-changing projects that will result in brand-new jobs in east Charlotte.
"I think this is long overdue and residents and communities have been waiting for us to take action," she said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is building a new school on the old Eastland Mall site. On Monday, the Charlotte City Council voted to purchase a vacant building across from the property to house information technology workers.
Ajmera hopes the city will take action before the end of the year.
