Three North Carolina students are facing charges after allegedly putting a Confederate flag on display in their high school’s courtyard.

The Brunswick County Schools spokeswoman said several West Brunswick High School students put the Confederate battle flag on display in the courtyard and then wore it as a cape. The students were charged with disorderly conduct.

Two other students involved were juveniles, so they won’t be charged.

The Confederate flag was removed from the South Carolina Statehouse last summer. Activists and lawmakers pushed for its removal after the Emanuel AME Church shooting in June, where nine people were killed during Bible study.

Pictures surfaced of the accused killer, Dylann Roof, with the Confederate flag. Roof is facing federal hate crime charges in addition to murder charges.
