Mecklenburg County:
Charlotte, N.C. - Mecklenburg County government offices and agencies will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2013 for Independence Day and open on a normal schedule Friday, July 5.
This includes all units of the Department of Social Services, the Tax Office, Elections Office, the Register of Deeds Office, and the Land Use and Environmental Services Agency.
The Department of Social Services Care Line (704-336-CARE or 704-336-2273) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect of children and elderly or disabled adults.
Mecklenburg County Substance Abuse Center (Detox) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Health Department will be closed on Thursday, July 4.
The Main Library and all library branches will be closed on Thursday, July 4.
Solid Waste's administrative offices and all facilities, except Compost Central, will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Compost Central will operate from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Park and Recreation administrative offices at 5841 Brookshire Boulevard will be closed on Thursday, July 4. County parks and nature preserves/centers will be open regular hours. Recreation centers will be closed on July 4.
The Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center will open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Ray's Splash Planet will open special holiday hours of 10 a.m. -6 p.m.
As a reminder, Char-Meck 311 remains open and available to the public on holidays and weekends.
Kannapolis:
All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of the July 4 holiday. There will be no disruption in garbage and recycling collection service.
All Kannapolis parks will be open regular operating hours from dawn until dusk. In Village Park, the Rotary Express and Splash Pad will be open regular hours, from Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday noon to 6 p.m.
Concord:
In observance of Independence Day, City of Concord offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4.
Garbage, recycling, and bulky waste collection by Waste Pro will operate on a normal schedule for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday customers, and a one-day delay for Thursday and Friday customers with Thursday's items collected on Friday, and Friday's items collected on Saturday. However, all customers are asked to place yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday, July 1. All yard waste will be collected by the end of the day Friday, July 5.
The City is transitioning to a no-call bulky item collection process beginning Monday, July 8. For the week of July 1-5, customers are encouraged to call the Customer Care Center (704-920-5555) to schedule the curbside collection of bulky items, old appliances, scrap metal, used tires, and e-waste. Items left on curb may not exceed 10 cubic yards total and no more than 4 cubic yards of construction debris.
Rider Transit will not operate on Thursday, July 4, and will resume normal service on Friday, July 5.
City parks, greenways, Lake Fisher recreation area and the McInnis Aquatics Center will be open on the normal schedule http://www.concordnc.gov/Departments/Parks-Recreation/Facilities. However, the Academy, Hartsell, and Logan Recreation Centers will be open from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. on July 4.
Newton:
Newton offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. The City's sanitation collection will operate on a regular schedule. For utility problems, contact the Newton Police Department at 465-7430. City offices will re-open Friday, July 5.
Caldwell County:
All Caldwell County offices will be closed Thursday, July 4, 2013 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
County offices will re-open for regular business Friday, July 5, 2013.
In addition, the Caldwell County Board of Commissioners will not hold a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, July 1, 2013, due to the holiday. The Commissioners will only meet once in July, and that will be at 6 p.m., July 15, 2013, in the city/county chambers, at the Alden E. Starnes Administration Building, in Lenoir.

The Collett Street Recreation Center and Mountain View Recreation Center will also be closed. However, the Collett Street Outdoor Pool will be open July 4 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm and there will be a reduced rate for swimming. Hickory: The Patrick Beaver Memorial Library celebrates the 4th of July holiday with the Happy Birthday, America annual parade and family sing-along event on Wednesday, July 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library and around the SALT Block. The Patriotic Sing-along with Sharon Clarke begins at 11:00 a.m. and the parade will immediately follow. This event is free and open to the public.
