ALBEMARLE, N.C. — A 64-year-old man was flown to a Charlotte hospital with serious injuries Wednesday night after being struck by a North Carolina State Highway Patrol cruiser.
The pedestrian, identified as Gary Dean Jones, was hit at the intersection of West Main Street and U.S. Highway 52 in Albemarle, troopers said.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. Troopers said the patrol member was making a left turn from West Main Street onto U.S. Highway 52 and was traveling north when the vehicle struck Jones.
Following the collision, Jones was flown to CMC Main in Charlotte for medical treatment.
The member of the state police operating the cruiser was not injured in the crash. The highway patrol has not identified the trooper involved.
The State Highway Patrol Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision.
