7 Camp Lejeune Marines killed in training exercise in Nevada

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Seven Marines from Camp Lejeune were killed in a training accident at the Hawthorne Army Depot, Nev.

Several other Marines with the 2nd Marine Division were injured during the explosion Monday morning and were transported to area hospitals.

The identities of those killed have not been released.

"We send our prayers and condolences to the families of Marines involved in this tragic incident.  We remain focused on ensuring that they are supported through this difficult time," said Maj. Gen. Raymond C. Fox, II MEF commanding general. "We mourn their loss, and it is with heavy hearts we remember their courage and sacrifice."

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
