HOKE COUNTY, N.C. — A large pet boa constrictor vanished from its outdoor enclosure in rural North Carolina, and its owner is on the hunt for it.

The Hoke County Animal Shelter in Raeford, North Carolina, is asking anyone who sees the snake to call Animal Control at 910-875-4148. The shelter advised people not to try to catch the animal themselves.

The roughly 7-foot reptile is causing a lot of chatter online.

A lot of people started making comments on social media suggesting people to look at their toilet before sitting down and check the hood of their cars.

Boa constrictors are nonvenomous snakes native to Central and South America and don’t like the cold. They are named after their mode of predation: constriction. According to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute, they can measure up to 13 feet long and weigh more than 100 pounds when full grown.
