CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An 8-year-old girl wanted to comfort Cam Newton after the Super Bowl loss by presenting him with her soccer trophy.
Mike Youngs took his two daughters, 8-year-old Kelsey and 10-year-old Emma, to welcome the Panthers home Monday. He told Channel 9 that he wanted to teach his girls “that a good fan supports the team when they win but a great fan supports them when they don’t.”
The family made signs and had their faces painted before heading out to the stadium.

Kelsey said she wanted to give Cam Newton her soccer trophy because he didn’t win one and was depressed.
Mike Youngs said Newton is Kelsey’s favorite player and she wears No. 1 in soccer.
After the players left, Kelsey was bummed that she didn’t get a chance to give the trophy to him, but Mike Youngs told her that the thought counted and the real reason for going was to show support for the team.
Mike Youngs said he tried to get his daughter to give it to a security woman to pass along, but Kelsey said she would only give it to Cam Newton.
Mike Youngs said it was not a big deal that she didn’t get the chance to give Newton the trophy.
“She had a great time and we made a great memory as a family,” he said.
