CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As the Queen City continues to boost its population base — U.S. Census figures released last May, for instance, show Charlotte added 15,551 residents between July 2016 and 2017 — that growth continues to percolate to the suburbs, too.

Areas like Fort Mill, Waxhaw, Tega Cay, Belmont, Harrisburg and Concord have led the way in recent population surges across the region. But not all suburbs are created equal, as shown in a new ranking by Pittsburgh-based research and review site Niche.

Niche, which last month pegged a handful of Charlotte neighborhoods as among the best in the U.S., also has created a breakdown of where it says Charlotte’s top suburbs are located this year.
In addition to each suburb’s grade for a variety of factors, the slideshow includes each place’s rank in its respective state — North or South Carolina. For example, Charlotte’s top suburb and runner-up landed as the third-best in North Carolina and second-best in South Carolina, respectively.
