Margot Langdon's roof was damaged by hail in April.

Langdon hired a contractor named Ibis Construction.  She gave them a $1,831 deposit from her insurance company.

She became concerned when she asked Ibis for proof of liability coverage in case its workers were hurt.

She said Ibis gave her three different documents showing it had insurance but each time she attempted to verify the coverage, the insurance company told her there was none.

"Even the insurance company was amazed that I was calling," she said.

When she tried to get answers form the company as to why they had no insurance, no one called her back.

"I'm done dealing with them.  I just want my money back," she said.

Action 9's Don Griffin went to Ibis Construction's office and the co-owner, Diana Gambrell, told him the company had been in the process of switching coverage and she showed him the new policy.

Griffin called to verify the policy.

Gambrell explained she had been out of town dealing with some family issues, but agreed to refund Langdon's money.

"To make her happy and to make her comfortable is why we decided to do that and it wasn't something we had to do," Gambrelll.

Langdon urges other homeowners hiring contractors to follow her example and do their due diligence.  "Make the phone call.  Check on them," she said.

That means checking references, licenses and insurance.
