Alleged thief hits Kings Mountain officer with vehicle, gives chase

KINGS MOUNTIAN, N.C. — An alleged thief struck a Kings Mountain police officer with a vehicle on Friday morning and led a police pursuit that ended in adjacent Gaston County, authorities said.

Officer Bullins was called to a larceny at 10:39 a.m. at Bridges Hardware and approached the suspect, Brandon Dwaine King, of Kings Mountain.

King ran off and got into a parked vehicle, locked the door and sped away, hitting Bullins.

The suspect led a police pursuit to a field near Gibbs Road in Bessemer City, where he jumped out and ran away from the police again.

Police set up a perimeter. And with the assistance of a K-9 unit, they were able to track King to a home.

King was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon on government official, felony to flee/elude arrest, failure to heed light or siren, failure to display vehicle registration, misdemeanor larceny, reckless driving to endanger, resisting public officer and speeding.

He was placed under a secured bond of $25,000 in Cleveland County.

Bullins was taken to Atrium Health Cleveland Hospital in Shelby and was treated and released.

“I would like to thank each agency for their assistance and quick response,” said Chief Lisa Proctor, Kings Mountain Police Department.

The following agencies assisted in King’s arrest: The Gaston County Police Department, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Bessemer City Police Department and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police helicopter.

No other injuries were reported.
