Amtrak train smashes into abandoned car on Gastonia railroad tracks

GASTONIA, N.C. — Police are looking for the driver who abandoned a car on Gastonia railroad tracks before a train collision early Wednesday morning.

Officers said no one was in the car when an Amtrak train smashed into it around 2:30 a.m. on Bessemer City Road near Oates Road.

Police are looking for the driver, but it's unclear if that person will face any charges.

No one on the train was hurt.
