RALEIGH, N.C. — A group of families in Raleigh are rallying around one of their neighbors after someone slipped an offensive and threatening note in their mailbox.
The note was an attempt to bully the biracial family out of expressing any “Black Lives Matter” views.

In the letter obtained by WRAL, it read, “Please keep your husband and teenage kids well behaved and orderly.” It also said that no one was interested in their struggles.
“I couldn’t believe that someone in my neighborhood that close to me would have written something so mean,” neighbor Marianna Morin said.
The anonymous writer also threatened to call the police.
The family made copies and shared it with their neighbors, who were horrified.
“Something has to change,” neighbor Kate Pirrung said. “We are all God’s children and we are all created equal. What happened to love thy neighbor?”
The family has asked the writer to step forward, saying “We are happy to have a discussion regarding love, respect and racism if you have the courage.”
FAMILY STATEMENT:
“We want to acknowledge that this letter does not compare to some of the more dire circumstances many people find themselves in on a regular basis due to bigotry. However, it was shocking and ignorant. The outrage, support and kind words expressed to us by so many in our community have overpowered the hate expressed from the one person who wrote the letter.
Our hope is for this to inspire respectful conversations and courageous self-examination about bias and racism. To the person who wrote the letter, we pray for your heart to be released from bitterness and filled with understanding and compassion for others. Black lives do matter.”
