CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you have a willow tree with a large band around it, arborists say you should remove it as soon as possible.
The city of Charlotte is telling residents to remove those bands now, instead of waiting until mid-April.
The bands are designed to prevent adult cankerworms from climbing trees to lay eggs, but last year the city discovered there is a new beetle in the area that feeds on cankerworms.
Removing the bands will allow the beetle to climb the trees.
