CHARLOTTE, N.C. — California real estate firm Kenwood Investments, which is spearheading the Excelsior Club project in west Charlotte, will soon engage local residents about its plans for the site.
The developer also recently added Hamilton Anderson Associates, a Black-owned architecture firm based in Detroit, to the project team. Darrel Williams, founder of Charlotte-based Neighboring Concepts — one of the largest Black-owned architecture firms in the Southeast — is serving as lead architect and consultant on the project.

The addition of HAA brings hospitality and entertainment architecture experience to the team, said Darius Anderson, founder and CEO of Kenwood.
The Excelsior Club, at 921 Beatties Ford Road, is a historically and culturally significant piece of Charlotte’s history. Kenwood acquired the club, which has fallen into disrepair, and adjacent parcels in late 2019 for nearly $1.4 million.
