Atrium Health tries again for Lake Norman hospital

LAKE NORMAN — Atrium Health has refiled an application for a Lake Norman hospital, about eight months after state regulators rejected its initial plans.

Charlotte-based Atrium has applied to open a separately licensed hospital in Cornelius with 30 acute-care beds and two operating rooms. The $153.9 million project would relocate 18 beds and one OR from Carolinas Medical Center, plus 12 beds and another OR from Atrium Health-University City, according to recent filings.

The proposed site is at the southwest corner of Westmoreland Road and N.C. Highway 21.
