CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hundreds of new high-tech jobs are coming to Charlotte in the next six months.
The positions will be created by AvidXchange, which is a company that creates software for business payments.
The building, which resides on the edge of uptown, looks like a tech company you would find in Silicon Valley. The company plans to keep growing their high-tech home in Charlotte until the Queen City is on the map as the “Silicon of the South.”
"This year alone we'll add over 200 jobs at AvidXchange,” said company CEO Michael Praeger.
And those are the just the jobs that are coming in the next six months. In the next two years, AvidXchange plans to add another 300 high-paying high-tech jobs.
"We are a lot cheaper place to live than Silicon Valley. (There are) a lot of folks love coming to Charlotte,” said Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts.
Fin-tech -- or financial technology -- is how AvidXchange rocketed from a small startup company in Charlotte 17 years ago, to an economic powerhouse with nearly 1,000 employees.
They create software to help businesses pay bills.
MasterCard revealed they're powering a new global payment program using AvidXchange's software.
"We could not be happier. These are jobs of the future,” Roberts said.
Charlotte's dominated by big banks but Roberts said the city is beginning to transform into a hub for even more high-paying, high-tech jobs.
Four large investment companies that want to get in early just promised to invest $300 million into AvidXchange to continue driving its record growth.
"We're hoping to be part of that community that can be part of a catalyst for growing entrepreneurial fin-tech in Charlotte,” Praeger said.
As they add jobs, expect to see more construction, too. Over the next two years, AvidXchange plans to build another six-story building just like the one at the former N.C. Music Factory.
