CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte woman is facing felony child abuse charges after an infant she was babysitting was hospitalized, court records show.
Shidae Brown was arrested Friday after doctors determined the child’s injuries could not have been accidental.
According to the affidavit, the mother of a 7-month-old reported her son had been with Brown the evening of Sept. 7. The next day, the mom FaceTimed with the child and said he appeared to be ok.
But on Sept. 9, the mom received a call from Brown asking her to meet at the hospital because the baby had fallen off the couch.
When she arrived, she learned the child had suffered severe injuries, including skull fractures and a brain injury, which forced him to be intubated.
When detectives spoke to Brown, she stood by her previous statement that the child fell off the couch.
Due to the severity of the child’s injuries, detectives sought an arrest warrant for Brown.
She’s being held at the Mecklenburg County jail under a $2 million bond.
