Belmont man dies in Florida Keys snorkeling incident

KEY WEST, Fla. — A man from Gaston County drowned while snorkeling in the Florida Keys, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies in Florida say Benjamin Millspaw, of Belmont, was pulled from the water around noon Sunday, near Cottrell Key off Key West. He was 56 years old.

Investigators say he was with a snorkel company at the time. They do not believe there was any foul play involved.

Deputies say the autopsy results are still pending.
