Better.com cuts hundreds of jobs, including in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Better.com has cut about 9% of its global workforce, including some employees in Charlotte. The digital mortgage firm confirmed the layoffs on Wednesday. About 900 people were affected.

A Better.com spokesperson declined to give further details. The company issued a statement from CFO Kevin Ryan: “A fortress balance sheet and a reduced and focused workforce together set us up to play offense going into a radically evolving homeownership market.”

Demi Clark, who led the Charlotte office, was one of the employees laid off. She estimates up to 200 local employees were let go.
