CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One Wells Fargo Center in uptown Charlotte may soon go by a new name: 301 South College.
The 42-story tower, which contains a little more than 1 million square feet of office space, will be rebranded and renovated as legacy anchor tenant Wells Fargo & Co. will exit more than 500,000 square feet of space by the end of 2021.

The move has been expected for some time, as Wells has been consolidating its real estate footprint at buildings it owns in uptown. But the reduction in space is larger than detailed in earlier reports, and a deal was recently finalized.
Vision Properties, which has had an ownership stake at the tower since 2013, will invest $10 million-plus in renovations, including the two-story lobby, its Overstreet Mall entrance and outdoor plaza.
