Board member: Vote expected Tuesday to release Crystal Hill investigation findings

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board Member Shamaiye Haynes says she will support a motion to release the findings of the investigation into Superintendent Crystal Hill. The motion is expected to be made at Tuesday’s CMS Board meeting.

“I think it brings a level of transparency to the question,” Haynes said. “A lot of times, our constituents are not upset about the outcome of something if they understand what it is you were trying to do in the first place.”

Haynes says CMS attorneys will have to review and determine what exactly can be released, but she believes more can be said than what has been shared.

“The public deserves to know to the fullest legal ability for them to know,” she said.

A person familiar with the motion tells Channel 9 it is expected to direct the School Board’s attorney to prepare a report for public release by the Sept. 9 meeting.

Bruno reached out to CMS and Dr. Hill but has not heard back.

At a news conference Tuesday, Hill said she will talk about the investigation at a later date. She did not share when.
