LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — The Carolina Wildlife Conservation Center said a bobcat that was rescued from a car’s grille in Lincoln County Wednesday evening has died peacefully.

According to the conservation center, a driver struck the big cat on Mount Zion Road around 6 p.m. It was trapped inside the engine compartment.
The animal rescue group was able to remove it safely.
The Alexis Fire Department originally reported minor injuries, but the conservation discovered much more serious damage.
After consulting veterinarians, who agreed even surgery could not heal the injuries, they made the difficult decision to euthanize the animal.
He died still under sedation, “free from fear and pain,” the rescuers said.
