CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After more than a month in the hospital, a 12-year-old who got E. coli after visiting the Cleveland County Fair is now home with his family.
Jordan McNair took his biggest step toward recovery on Thursday, leaving the hospital after 35 days of fighting an E. coli infection.
He doesn't remember much about his stay.
“I am excited to get back to our normal life, being at home,” his mother, Beth McNair, said.
“I just know I have been through a lot,” he said.
The 12-year-old was the first person hospitalized out of the more than 100 people infected after visiting the Cleveland County Fair.
He spent 12 days on dialysis and several days on life support.
McNair's mother said she never doubted her son would pull through.
“There was scared moments, but I never thought it would go any different,” she said.
Hours after they left the hospital, health officials announced that they know what caused the infection at the fair. They plan to release the findings Friday afternoon.
The McNair family is trying to put the ordeal behind them.
As his parents wait for answers, Jordan McNair will begin reclaiming his normal life as a 12-year-old. He will have a few days off then he goes back to school on Tuesday.
