BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Doctors and nurses are pleading with the community to help them get the COVID-19 pandemic under control.
Burke County hospitals are seeing the highest number of COVID-19 patients they’ve had since the beginning of the pandemic.

“We have doctors here who are picking up extra shifts,” said Rahul Sampath, MD, Infectious Disease Specialist. “We have ICU doctors who are not getting a night sleep because they are being called on critically ill patients.”
Sampath said the vast majority of patients are not vaccinated.
