BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — The superintendent of Burke County Public Schools announced Monday night that he is resigning.

Larry Putnam has had the role since August 2011.
Putnam said at the board of education meeting he has taken another leadership role, this time as executive vice president at Catawba Valley Community College.
“I will forever be grateful for the amazing opportunity to serve as superintendent of Burke County public schools, and I’m grateful for our board of education,” Putnam said. “And I’m thankful for the success we have had together. Most importantly, the friendships that I have made.”
