CONCORD, N.C. — Solo Faith Church is operating a digital food pantry program in Cabarrus County that delivers groceries directly to residents’ doors without requiring them to wait in line. Supported by community sponsors, the program serves approximately 160 households each month.
“The people in the community needed a place where they can get food and keep their dignity intact,” said Pastor Douglas Lattimore about the program that started last year.
They serve many, including seniors, veterans, and families without reliable transportation.
“We’re a church, and a church is here to love, look past the fault and see the need,” Lattimore said.
Volunteer Toni Logan said she was first introduced to the pantry when she needed help providing for her niece and nephew.
“I came here, and I was going through stuff, and she said, ‘Get whatever you want for the kids,’ so I got a bunch of desserts and fruits and meats and everything.”
She’s now on the other side of the assembly line packing boxes for families.
“We go down the line,” Logan said. “We start with vegetables, raw meat at the bottom, and we go from there.”
The boxes are filled with produce, bread, meat, and sweet treats.
“I like giving back. God gave me, so I give back,” Logan said.
The church partners with DoorDash to get the food to homes.
“Love your neighbor as yourself, and that’s kind of our thing,” Lattimore said. “And so, we got the opportunity to do that with food, then we wanted to make it as accessible as possible.”
Organizers said their goal is to expand, ensuring that a lack of transportation never stands between a family and food.
