Car fires on I-77 disrupt Charlotte traffic

CHARLOTTE — Two cars caught fire just hours apart on Interstate 77 Tuesday morning.

Fortunately, MEDIC says not one was hurt in either of the incidents.

Just after 10:30 a.m., large flames erupted from a car near Clanton Road. Lanes were shut down for about an hour as crews worked to put it out.

Earlier Tuesday morning, another fire broke out along Interstate 77 near South Tyvola Road.

This fire started around 8:20 a.m.

Smoke and flames were seen shooting from the front area of the car before fire crews were able to get it under control.

The ramp and one lane off of Tyvola onto Interstate 77 and were shut down due to the incident. All lanes reopened around 9 a.m.
