One man who’s been fighting that battle for decades is Harvey Gantt, who was the first black man elected mayor of Charlotte in 1983.

Channel 9 anchor Erica Bryant sat down with Gantt, who said he is encouraged by people of diverse backgrounds coming together to protest peacefully, but those we don’t see or hear that have him concerned.
