CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A 2.2 magnitude earthquake struck Catawba County around midnight Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The agency said it was centered around 2 miles east-southeast of Catawba County. It had a depth of zero kilometers.
Newton was located 10.1 miles east of the center, and Statesville was about 10.6 miles southwest of the center point.

Officials have not said if there were any damages resulting from the quake.
This is the third earthquake of at least 2.2 magnitude to be felt across the Carolinas just this week. A 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck central South Carolina early Monday morning, and then another quake rattled the same area late Monday night.
