NEWTON, N.C. — Emergency responders had to close a busy road in Catawba County following a crash early Wednesday morning.

Officials in Newton said Startown Road was temporarily closed near Startown Elementary School after a car and a flatbed tractor trailer wrecked just before 8 a.m.
That flatbed then crashed into a house but police said nobody was home at the time.
Startown Road was shut down at Highway 10 while police investigated the crash.
Firefighters said the car was pulling out from the school when the truck collided with it.
Two people were taken to the hospital but the extent of their injuries was not released.
