MATTHEWS, N.C. — Dashcam video caught a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools bus traveling through a stop light at a busy intersection Tuesday afternoon in Matthews.

“That was this light right here? Wow?” parent Clay Hargette said.

“In fact, the vehicle in front of me had to put on his brakes because he was starting to roll and, had he not been paying attention, he would have probably ran into the bus,” said Cole Regan, who provided Channel 9 with the dashcam video.

The bus from Shamrock Gardens Elementary School blew through the red light at East Independence Boulevard (Highway 74) and Sam Newell Road.

One student was on the bus at the time.

“It’s unacceptable. It really is,” Regan said.

CMS said it couldn’t comment on the driver’s past because it said it was a personnel matter.
