CDC: Mecklenburg County has ‘moderate-to-high’ vulnerability risk during disaster

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is tracking how well communities like Charlotte are prepared to deal with disasters -- everything from weather to disease to toxic spills.

Eyewitness News anchor Genevieve Curtis spent time digging into the information and discovered the agency ranks communities based vulnerabilities by looking into factors like poverty, access to transportation and housing.

The data comes from the 2016 Census.

It shows Mecklenburg County has a “moderate” to “high” level of vulnerability. One of the categories where Mecklenburg struggles is housing in some zip codes. Another weak point is poverty is some areas.
