Charlotte becomes first city to approve immigration compact

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte just became the first city to approve an immigration compact, which is a new list of rules that lays out several ways that city leaders will help local immigrants.

Leaders will now provide a plan to make sure a language barrier doesn't stop immigrants from accessing important services and programs.

They also have a plan to make boards and commissions more diverse.
