CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The city of Charlotte is bringing back a homicide task force.

City Council member Julie Eiselt called on the city manager to create a group of community members to study the city’s 71 homicides this year and how Charlotte can stop the spike in violence.

There were a total of 69 homicides in Charlotte for all of 2016.

“The city recognizes we've got to get them on board to ask the questions why is this happening?” Eiselt said.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will present the findings from the group to council at a future meeting.
