Charlotte Checkers announce home opener for upcoming season

CHARLOTTE — Grab your team jersey and cowbell: The Charlotte Checkers will return to the ice at Bojangles Coliseum this fall.

The team announced their home opener for the 2021-22 season will be Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. against the Hershey Bears. A game is also scheduled the following night on Oct. 23.

A lot has happened since the team’s last full season ended in 2019, when they also won the Calder Cup.

The team expects to release its full schedule on Friday.

Fans interested in purchasing tickets can fill out and submit a form here.

The Checkers opted out of the 2020-21 American Hockey League season because of coronavirus concerns. Last September, they announced they were ending their AHL affiliation with the Carolina Hurricanes and signing a multi-year arrangement with the Florida Panthers.
