CHARLOTTE — An active-duty Army Soldier says the challenges he faced while studying at West Point are helping him compete in professional hockey with the Charlotte Checkers.

Dominic Franco is a full-time professional hockey player, but he’s also committed to service with the military. After attending the prestigious military academy, Franco says he got intense training on what it’s like to work as a team.

“I think lessons learned at West Point on perseverance, you know they throw a lot of challenges at you and try to overwhelm you to see how you can overcome it,” Franco said.

In the video at the top of the page, see how Franco is able to serve the military while on skates, and how he serves the community.

The Checkers center is also giving back.
