Charlotte City Council to vote on new e-bike rules

E-bike injuries rising as holiday demand surges; parents warned of liability

CHARLOTTE — New rules may soon be coming for e-bike riders in Charlotte.

Charlotte City Council will vote on Monday to:

  • Require anyone under 16 to wear a helmet
  • Require lamps at night for all riders
  • Require e-bike operators to yield to pedestrians on sidewalks less than 5 feet in width
  • Establish penalties for injuries to people and property caused by e-bike riders.
