CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Monday night the Charlotte City Council voted to give MetLife a $1 million incentive plan to bring more than 1,000 jobs to Charlotte, but not everyone thinks that was the right thing to do.
It's a deal many critics say didn't need to be made.
On Monday night, Charlotte city leaders approved the incentive package for MetLife insurance.
The deal just seemed too good for local jobs.
The insurance giant will bring 2,600 jobs to the state, and roughly half of those will come to Charlotte when it moves here.
Along with the $1 million from Charlotte, MetLife could also get $2 million from Mecklenburg County and more than $90 million in state incentives.
Those grants boil down to property tax rebates for the company.
While city leaders seem to be on board with granting incentives to MetLife, many county leaders were opposed to it.
In fact, some Mecklenburg County commissioners questioned why any funding was granted to MetLife because the company had already planned to come to North Carolina before any money was even requested.
It's now up to the county to decide if it will shell out millions to MetLife.
County commissioners are to vote next week.
