Charlotte Eucharistic Congress to cause major road closures Saturday

CHARLOTTE — A big event in Uptown Charlotte on Saturday will bring thousands of people to the area and close several roads.

The Diocese of Charlotte’s Eucharistic Congress begins at 9 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on South Tryon Street.

South Tryon will close between Brooklyn Village Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard starting at 7 a.m. for staging.

Then, a procession will travel along Third and Brevard Streets before ending at the Charlotte Convention Center.

The congress includes showings of “Cabrini.” A drama detailing the life of Catholic missionary Francesca Cabrini. She was the first American Saint.
