PARIS — A Charlotte family vacationing in Europe planned on being in Brussels on Tuesday, but changed plans just days before.
Robin Petrovsky, along with her husband and three children, were on vacation during her kids’ spring break.
Explosions ripped through Belgium’s capital city early Tuesday at an airport and subway stations. At least 34 are dead and the death toll has drifted upwards steadily throughout the morning.
Petrovsky said they were on a train when the news first broke. When they arrived at the train station in Paris, an announcement was made over the loud speakers in French about the attacks.
“Many people in the terminal fell to their knees and cried,” Petrovsky said.
She said they were aware of the dangers in traveling to Europe before leaving.
"We decided we were going to come anyway and not let them keep us home," Petrovsky said.
