CHARLOTTE — Residents in Charlotte reportedly smelt an odd odor outside Tuesday morning.
The Charlotte Fire Department responded to five calls for an odor outside. Using monitoring equipment, fire officials said they could not find any signs of hazardous gases in the air.
Shortly after the calls were received, officials say the odor dissipated. Several people called into the Channel 9 newsroom to report the smell.

This isn’t the first time local authorities have received calls about an odd smell. In July, Mecklenburg County authorities said they got a high number of 911 calls regarding a rotten odor associated with natural gas throughout the city.
The smell was caused by a local company destroying mercaptan tanks that were “mistakenly reported empty.” A couple weeks later, another company unintentionally released mercaptan into the air Monday afternoon
It is unclear what caused Tuesday’s smell and how far it reached.
